ANZAC 2022 - Lest We Forget

At the Bathurst Carillon and at war memorials around Australia, members of the community met to pay their respects, and to lay 'ANZAC wreaths'; to serve as a way to remember those who have lost their lives serving Australia in wars, conflicts and peacekeeping operations.

In Melbourne, Trustees for the Defence Community Dogs program, Defence Bank CEO David Marshall, and Air Vice Marshal Christopher Spence AO (Ret'd), paid their respects at the dawn service of the Melbourne Shrine of Remembrance.

A recent recipient of a Defence Community Dog, a Defence Force Chaplain, held service in Canberra, with her dog Skye. For some of our Veterans, time spent at home both honoured themselves and their service. Whilst for others, a return to attendance at or participation within a march represented a significant milestone in their rehabilitation and social involvement.

It is important to note that for Veteran Recipients of Defence Community Dogs, the dogs help empower their Veterans to be able to begin to participate again in social activities; for example speaking at, attending and marching in ANZAC Day activities.

In whichever capacity of involvement that honoured each of our Veterans, serving and ex-serving, we thank you for your service and sacrifice. We salute you.

The Defence Bank Foundation and the Defence Community Dogs, the team of dogs, inmates, professional dog trainers and Veteran Support Teams took pride in commemorating ANZAC Day 2022.

We thank the members of NSW Correctional Services who also marched proudly alongside the dogs, bringing attention to Veteran wellbeing
and our continued dedication to improving the lives of Veterans. One paw at a time.
